At the House of Manannan, the Island’s mythological sea god, Manannan, welcomes you to his fascinating Kingdom and guides you through the Island’s rich Celtic, Viking, and Maritime past.

  • Explore 19th Century Peel quayside and discover the sights and smells of a Manx Kipper Yard.
  • Walk through the quayside warehouse and discover ‘sailmakers’, ‘coopers’ and ‘chandlers’ shops.
  • Visit ‘Spit Corner’, eavesdrop on conversations and the superstitions of the fisherfolk.

Opening hours 2013

Open all year, 10am to 5pm, 7 days a week*.  Admission is by ticket or Group Booking Permit which provides entry to the entire heritage centre. Group Booking Permits should be handed in by your Group Travel Representative on arrival at the House of Manannan Shop.

* closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Timing your visit

A typical visit lasts between 2 to 2 ½ hours, although shortened visits focussing on specific floors can be arranged.  During the summer months, Manx National Heritage recommends that a visit to the House of Manannan is timed to coincide with a visit to Peel Castle, which is also situated in Peel.

10 Day Explorer Tickets and 5 Day Heritage Transport Explorer Tickets are also available and offer exceptional value for money.  Passes provide access to all Manx National Heritage sites and use of Heritage Transport priced from £17* to £49.50**.

*To qualify for the pre-booked group rate, groups must consist of at least 15 people and must be booked 7 days in advance to qualify. Multi-site discount admission passes are also available from all Manx National Heritage sites.  Valid passes must be shown on entry to each site. **Minimum group size of 20 people to qualify for discount to combined Heritage and Transport Explorer Tickets.  Manx National Heritage have reciprocal agreements with a number of organisations, providing free or reduced admission on presentation of a valid membership card. Refunds are not available for tickets purchased.

Booking your visit

Pre-booking is advised and achieves a number of benefits for your group including a substantial discount on the standard admission price and speedy, hassle-free entry to the site.

To book your group visit please telephone our group bookings office on (+44) (0) 1624 648017.  Payment is due no later than 7 days in advance and refunds are not given once the booking and group numbers are confirmed.

On receipt of payment, a Group Entry Permit will be issued to you for presentation at the site entrance on the day of your visit.

How to get there

The House of Manannan is situated in Peel, Isle of Man.  View the building on a map here and zoom in on Peel.

When travelling by coach or by road: Access Peel from the A1 St Johns / Douglas road.  On entering Peel turn left into Queens Drive at the crossroads taking a right at the roundabout down the hill to the junction with Patrick Street.  Turn right and then left down station hill to House of Manannan located at the bottom. Drive straight on through the traffic lights turning right for the car park or left immediately before the kipper house for the coach park.  A coach drop off point is available at the bus stop to the side of the building after turning right at the bottom of the hill.  Coaches departing Peel should follow the promenade and turn right up Walpole Drive, turning left at the top of Walpole Drive.  It is recommended that coaches depart Peel via Kirk Michael.

By foot and by road: The House of Manannan is situated on Peel Quayside and is signposted in Peel.

By bus: 4, 4B, 5, 5A, 6, 6A, 8 – from Douglas, Ramsey, Castletown and Port Erin

Coach parking and travel information

There is a coach drop off point at the front of the House of Manannan and coach parking facilities situated adjacent to the House of Manannan and signposted on Mill Road.

For your guidance, please note that speed limits apply in Peel and there are narrow streets within the town.
