Amenity Website = http://www.gov.im/categories/leisure-and-entertainment/walking/national-glens/silverdale-glen/Silverdale has two parts – the first an extensive play area with a playground and a water-powered carousel, (the waterwheel that drives the carousel originally came from the Foxdale Mines), when the mines were closed the wheel was transported to Silverdale and reinstalled to provide the power needed to drive the ride-on horses, which date back to the 1900's. There is no cost to ride on the merry-go-round and the lever can be operated by the public. There is also a pretty boating lake and the second part of Silverdale is a beautiful and secluded historic glen, which is owned by the Manx National Trust, it has well laid out paths that lead past small waterfalls and through dense woodland, much of the glen and complex has wheelchair access.
Silverdale also boasts a large grassy paddock, which provides space for ball games and picnicking.
Look out for the Medieval Monks Bridge in Ballasalla, which links Silverdale Glen to the historic Rushen Abbey, and the Monks Well which is a perfect place to throw in a few pennies and make a wish.
On site you’ll find a cafe, which serves a variety of hot and cold meals, snacks and ice cream. There is a well-stocked gift shop and a pottery craft studio. Craftworks Studio where you can relax by painting pottery creations.
