Amenity Website = http://www.maps.org.imThis museum is a real hidden treasure. A wonderful local museum which is run by volunteers on weekends and holidays, and is free of charge.
A fine effort to keep the history of the island's aviation past alive and viewable by the public.
The exhibition rooms are well planned out, based on themes from different points in aviation history.
Step inside and you’ll discover the story of the Manx Regiment which became the British Army’s best anti aircraft unit in World War II.
A host of memorabilia is displayed in three exhibition rooms – representing military, civil and wartime aviation - which can be browsed at your leisure.
You’ll find a varied range of artefacts including a Vickers machine gun and tripod, a Bren gun, mannequins in military uniform, photographs and even parts from aircraft that have crashed and been recovered.
Photographs line the walls and cabinets are filled with relics from the past. There are quite a few items, from plane parts, guns, photos, facts and uniforms, which are set out on forms to be viewed as they were once worn/used.
The miniature aeroplanes are impressive and well worth a closer look. Don't miss out on this museum.
