This is a Medieval Castle preserved and located in the island's historical capital, Castletown (in the south of the island).
Castle Rushen was built for a Norse King, who died at this mighty fortress in 1265 and was buried at the nearby Abbey of Rushen (Rushen Abbey), Castle Rushen is an experience not to be missed.
Today, archeologists are still uncovering stories from the castle's ancient walls which bear evidence of many sieges including an attack by Robert the Bruce. Fine rooms, spiral staircases and wall walks all tell the tale of Castle Rushen as a royal residence, a mint and a prison.
